Parent Responsibilities

Our elementary aged classes are run and taught by parents of elementary aged kids. All parents will at some point teach a class geared to PreK-1st, 2nd-3rd, and 4th-5th. For example, an art class about Van Gogh is taught to all classes, but slightly adjusting material to be appropriate for those ages. That way parents are prepping one lesson, but just slightly tweaking the material for the different ages. For parents who don’t teach, there are other volunteer roles that we will assign based loosely on preference, such as planning enrichment events, parties, coordinating field trips, teaching chapel, running our Parent Support Time (PST), fundraising, or being a co-op board member. All parents are also required to assist in classes about 3 times a year. Parents who don’t have a volunteer role during meetings are required to be in PST. Drop-off is not an option for elementary aged students.

Our middle school and high school classes are run and taught by both parent volunteers and paid teachers. These classes are designed to be more academic. Since these students are older, parents do not need to assist in class. If the teacher requests some extra help for a project, then parents will be asked to step in. Otherwise, parents will fulfill other volunteer roles that we will assign based loosely on preference. If a parent of a middle school + student would like to teach an elementary class for their parent volunteer role, they are able to do so. Drop-off is an option for the 1st Tuesday of the month. Otherwise parents are expected to participate in Parent Support Time. If parents volunteer to teach a high school class they must have a bachelor’s degree so that the credits can count on their transcripts.
